Beautiful Mesa, Arizona
You may not think that a desert city could be a "cool" place to visit, but Mesa, Arizona is a real hot spot! And we're going to give you a few reasons why...
Salt River Tubing. Boom. Who doesn't love to grab a tube and hit the water when you need to cool off? The Salt River hosts a few floating parties that are a MUST! Grab your floaties and a costume for Halloween Spooktacular, Pirates On the Salt River, Mardi Gras Magic, and Hawaiian Hula. Or just hit it any ol' day with your friends and a cooler of beers and chill for a while.
If you don't really feel like getting your toes wet, why not stop and smell the roses at the Mesa Community College rose garden? If you're in the area in March or April you should definitely try to stop by. There are 6 acres of gorgeous roses in bloom. 40 beds containing 9,000 bushes makes it the biggest garden of roses in the Southwestern desert. (Tip: In April Sundays are free. You're welcome.)
Flowers a little girlie for ya? How about you earn your right to keep your man card by learning air combat maneuvers at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport? You don't have to have any flying experience. You'll learn from experienced pilots and they'll let you play with the controls. Cue airplane and machine gun noises.
For you sporty folk there are spring training games to watch. Mesa's Riverview Park Stadium and Hohokam Stadium host a number of teams, including the Oakland Athletics and the Chicago Cubs. Catch a game and have some peanut and crackerjacks with some fans.
If you want to add some culture to your vacay you can hit up the Museum of Natural History. Come see the creatures that used to swim in Arizona's Paleozoic seas— can you believe there was an ocean in these parts once? There are some dinosaur and rocks and whatnot, if you're into that stuff.
You could also take an art-walking tour through downtown Mesa. There are around 40 pieces that can be admired at anytime. You can find the map online and it will lead you to old "Humpty Dumpty" perched an a wall, "Flowering Stiletto", a huge heel coupled with an orange flower, and many more eye-catching sculptures.
Do you like to get scared? There is a Mesa Ghost Tour and History Walk that'll get you spooked. Walk the halls of the above- and under-ground buildings whilst listening to the scary stories the go along with them. Try to solve the mystery of what really going on with those underground tunnels in Mesa, AZ.
Unlock your inner crafter and attend the Mesa Festival of Creativity. Have some free fun during the five days of the annual spring event hosted at the Mesa Arts Center. There is an indoor performing arts stage, lots of hands-on crafting activities, outdoor music and much more at this event!
Here's a little something that may appeal to he outdoorsy type, head out to Usery Mountain Regional Park. It's a 3,648 acre park that offers 29 miles of mountain biking and hiking trails, camping locations and plenty of gorgeous scenery. Alright, alright, enough about what to do here. I could blather on about the things you could do for hours....heck, I just did. But there are so many amazing things about this place. The people here are just awesome. So many folks from all over the place end up here so we have a great mix of all the varieties of this country.
And the weather! Man. The summers can be killer, but the rest of the year is perfection. Everyone in the rest of the US wishes they were here in the winter! Walking around like a boss in shorts and flip flops, soaking in the sunshine and winking at passers by.
It really doesn't get much better than Mesa. And it's so widespread, you'd never know it was home to almost half a million residents. And the best part, even if you are way out in East Mesa, you can jump on the 202 or the 60 and get toward the rest of the Valley pretty quickly. If you're fortunate enough to live near the 101 and 202 intersection, head up to Scottsdale and visit Old Town on the weekend. Chances are you'll have a great time.
If a night out on the town isn't your thing, but you still like a little excitement, catch the Phoenix Rising soccer team play over in Tempe, anytime from February to September. Another local professional soccer team that actually plays it's games in Mesa is our hometown FC Arizona. They had a great run last year and went deep into the playoffs. The atmosphere is electric, and they hold soccer camps throughout the year for youth players throughout the East Valley.
Being close to the Sonoran Desert makes Mesa an absolute paradise for those who love the outdoors, and it's also a haven for some exotic restaurants that both tourists and locals love to frequent.
India Oven is one such place, offering amazing flavor and an equally awesome space, each time you eat here you'll leave thinking about coming back for more. Locals know that the lunch buffet is where it's at.
If Indian isn't your cup of tea, head on over to Unphogettable to get a taste of Mesa's best Vietnamese. You'll thank us.
Both of those sound a little weird to you? That's okay. Some people are all about the classic, All-American type restaurants. If that sounds like you, and you also like beer, you gotta check out Red White and Brew. With microbrews brewed right here in Mesa, and some of the best burgers you'll ever taste, you can't go wrong.
And hey, if you're ever in car trouble and you want a local's opinion on the cheapest towing Mesa AZ has available, just give us a call. We'll tell you straight up-- it's us here at Mesa Tow Truck Company. We're fast, affordable, and friendly. You'll like us.
